Photoshop woes....

I bloody hate photoshop. Hate it and love it. I'm trying to learn to color with it... so if you happen to be bored and happen to have any tips for using layer masks to color anime-style pretties, do let me know.... I've attempted to learn, as can be seen in a few drawings I've posted....

I'm not exactly sure what this is for, but Deviantart wants me to fill it out I guess... I'm a self taught artist stuck in a science degree.
